Shanghai Aquarium (China)

The Shanghai Aquarium is in the Pudong new district near the Pear Tower (see post below).

The Aquarium has over 10,000 fish in 300 species. We were impressed that the Aquarium was pushing a very western conservation message. Very rare view from what we saw elsewhere on our trip.

Nathan is making friends with a giant Salamander

Sea turtles!!! It has been a few posts since I had a turtle picture.

Humble Administrator's Garden (China)

The Humble Administrators Garden was very impressive. Around 1513, during the Ming Dynasty, the imperial inspector Wang Xianchen, returned to Suzhou after retiring from public life and built his garden. The name Humble Administrator's Garden was inspired by the essay "To cultivate my garden and sell my vegetable crop is the policy of humble man".

However, I myself failed to find anyone Humble in China????

I really like Bonsai trees. Too bad we can’t take any back with us. Uncle Dale will have to teach us how to make one of these.

We rented a van and driver for the day. Driving in China is best left to the criminally insane.

Sight seeing on the Huangpu River (China)

We took a sight seeing boat on the Huangpu River. It is the best way to see the city skyline. The east side of the river is the Pudong. Ten years ago it was a swamp. This city is growing at an incredible rate.

The Oriental Pearl Tower is the tallest TV tower in the world.

The Jin Mao Tower, symbolic of Shanghai and China's economic development.

The west side of the river shows the old style building.

The Bund is the region along the West side of the river, vendors, street performers, people and more people.

A Chinese newly wed couple.

Mag Lift Train (China)

We rode the “Mag Lift” train from the airport to the city. It is faster than the Shin Kansen in Japan. If you look at the read out in the picture the train was going 431 kph (270 mph). Wow!!!!!

Hotel and Nanjing Rd (China)

Our first night in Shanghai.

Nanjing Rd, Keep your wallet in your front pocket.

The Radisson Hotel hovered over the market.

The Nanjing Rd is the main market in Shanghai and the Ramada plaza was our retreat from it.

The pool is on the 7th floor. It was serine.

The marble work in the hotel was incredible.

Here is the new F150 replacement.

Shanghai China F1 (China)

The Shanghai F1 race was defiantly one of the best I have ever seen. I suppose that doesn’t say much since the 2005 USGP was the last “race” I attempted to see. But enough on that sore spot. It was a wet weekend that really changed the dynamics of the race. The Renaults were much better on the wet. But Schumacher really had them covered when it dried.

Nathan wore his usual red to start with. Unfortunately when the cold rain came there were no child size red coats so he had to match dad and Glen in Alonso colors. He took a lot of harassment for that.

There were a few thing I realy liked about the F1 race in China. The track was an incredible state of the art track and the price of clothing (hats were $2 US, the coats were $10 US).

When Schumacher passed for the lead the blue coat came off the red had went back on and the Ferrari flag flew. I could actually hear the crowd behind us laughing over the cars.

I think Nate will still be a Ferrari fan next year.
