The Sunday after I got out of the hospital, I heard a drums and singing out in the road. The local Shinto shrine was having a festival. The kids are supposed to carry a small shine through the neighbor hood and some of the residents come out and give donations to the Shine. I asked what the meaning is and was told that it is a type of thanksgiving to the harvest.
You just don’t see these kinds of things at home.
